TOKYO, JAPAN, Nov 2 2018: The International Design for All Foundation Good Practices Awards, an initiative of the Design for All Foundation recognizes achievements in universal design from all over the world. Through these awards, they aim to highlight the importance of universal design and its contribution to innovation within all kinds of organisations.
This year, Techbility’s Access Inspector received a special mention at the Design for All Good Practice award ceremony. Access Inspector, available for iOS and Android devices, is a mobile application designed to assist those interested in accessibility assessments of the built environment.
The application consists of user-friendly checklist tool for assessing more than 40 common architectural built environment features including – accessible routes, doors, corridors, ramps, toilets, elevators. Signages etc. It has recently added a section on accessible events.
Access Inspector is based on leading international standards and technical specifications providing users with the best practices necessary for assessing public and private buildings of all types.
The idea behind Access Inspector is to provide a useful tool which complements local accessibility requirements and legislations. It is also a good starting point for situations when there is a lack of an accessibility consultant. The app has a provision to upload photos which helps create simple reports that can be then exported by email.
The application assesses buildings and structures from an overall accessibility perspective which will help not only persons with disabilities, but also older people, pregnant women and parents with prams.
